Shannon (she/her) is the National Policy and Advocacy Lead at MYAN. Shannon is a human rights advocate and researcher who has worked in the humanitarian, human rights, and multicultural sectors for 15 years in a range of local, national and international roles including at Amnesty International, the Australian Red Cross and Hagar International. Shannon is also on the board for the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition.
Through extensive involvement in research, policy advocacy, and community development, Shannon strives to create a more equitable and inclusive society that embraces diversity, and values the lived experiences of all individuals. With a passion for social justice, social equity and making traditional structures and institutions more inclusive for people in all their diversity and life experiences, Shannon has worked to create positive change for groups including vulnerable children and young people, LGBTQI+ refugees and migrants, and people impacted by forced migration.
The power of community drives Shannon in all she does. She is committed to working with others to dream big and dismantle societal barriers that prevent people from accessing the opportunities and resources they need to thrive.
