This is a submission by the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network Australia (MYAN) to the Refugee Council of Australia, addressing Australia’s 2013-2014 Refugee and Humanitarian Program. MYAN provides a national perspective on the program, focusing on the unique needs of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. The submission welcomes the increase in Australia’s humanitarian intake but emphasises the need for additional resources for youth settlement services. MYAN also discusses concerns related to family reunion, the wellbeing of unaccompanied minors, and the impacts of asylum policies on young people. Recommendations include improving settlement services, ensuring culturally appropriate care, and enhancing support for young people during their settlement in Australia.
