MYAN’s submission to the Australian Government’s employment services reform process calls for a future system that better supports young people from refugee, migrant and multicultural backgrounds into safe, meaningful and sustainable work.
The submission highlights the strengths young people bring to Australia’s workforce, while identifying barriers such as racism and discrimination, limited local networks, language and digital access challenges, settlement pressures, visa-related uncertainty and lack of recognition of overseas skills and experience.
MYAN recommends youth-specific, culturally safe, settlement-informed and strengths-based employment support, stronger employer engagement, fairer participation requirements, partnerships with trusted multicultural youth and settlement organisations, and ongoing involvement of multicultural young people in service design, delivery and evaluation.
