Submission on the Consultation Draft of Labor’s National Platform

This submission is in response to the Consultation Draft of Labor’s National Platform. The submission provides recommendations to ensure that the needs of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds are adequately addressed in the platform. Key recommendations include ending the detention of children and young people in immigration detention, adopting youth justice approaches focused on rehabilitation and diversion, investing in youth-specific settlement services, and increasing the intake into the Unaccompanied Humanitarian Minors Program. MYAN also advocates for the inclusion of references to the New York Declaration and the Global Compact on Refugees to strengthen Australia’s commitment to international protection efforts.
