SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED

Applications are now open
for 5 scholarships available to young people seeking asylum in Australia (aged 18-25) to attend the MYAN National Conference. 

The scholarships are for young advocates and emerging young leaders and will be invaluable opportunity to participate in all sessions, join the conversations and network with conference speakers and delegates. 
Deadline for applications is 12pm Wednesday 8th November.

Meet some of the high calibre speakers joining us.
Dr Alexandra Leipold will be joining us all the way from Europe to share how Germany is strengthening engagement in education and employment for young migrants and refugees. 
Sen. Richard Di Natale, Leader of the Australian Greens, will share views from the cross-section of his work in portfolios of multiculturalism, health and sport. 
 
Tim Soutphommasane,  Race Discrimination Commissioner, brings influential thinking on multiculturalism, human rights and national identity.
Apajok Biar, MYAN Youth Ambassador, will share her thoughts on youth advocacy in Australia and with UNHCR Geneva.

 
Claire Naughtin, CSIRO representative, will be presenting findings from a new Megatrends Report on young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, commissioned by MYAN & VicHealth. 
Anya Satyanand, Executive Officer of Ara Taiohi, New Zealand’s youth peak body, will be talking about superdiversity and building on young people’s cultural capabilities.
Megan Mitchell, Australia’s first National Children’s Commissioner. Her role focuses solely on the rights and interests of children, and the laws, policies and programs that impact on them.
Dorcas Utkovic, Producer & host of OZ AFRICAN TV, will be bringing her lens of media as a powerful tool for representation and changing perceptions. 
Sen. Hon Zed Seslja, Assistant Minister for Social Services and Multicultural Affairs, will share informed perspectives as a policymaker and second generation migrant. 
 
Hon. Tony Burke MP, Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism and Citizenship, will contribute insights from a lifelong commitment to modern multicultural Australia. 

 
Professor Fethi Mansouri will bring a local to global perspective on human rights, global citizenship and the place of young people.  
Dr Tim Corney will be discussing perspectives of the place of human rights in contemporary youth work practice in Australia.
