Australian Citizenship Legislation Amendment

The changes currently in the Parliament propose similar changes to the Citizenship Act as in 2017, which failed to pass last year. The changes would increase the waiting period for applying to citizenship to 8 years after taking up permanent residency and demand high level English competency.

MYAN opposed the changes in 2017 in a submission and will make a new submission to oppose the current proposed amendments.

If you do not support the proposed changes, it is really important to make this known. Have your say in this debate here and say ‘NO to the provisions in the Bill through the survey provided by the Parliamentary Committee.

Survey closes 5pm 27 April, 2018.
