MYAN invites you to the launch of the MYAN/Deloitte Access report,
COVID-19, and young migrants - impact and solutions
on Tuesday 17 August 1.30 - 3.00 PM AEST.

We are honoured to have Alison Larkins, Coordinator-General for Migrant Services, Department of Home Affairs joining us to celebrate the launch. David Rumbens, the Deloitte Access Partner and Innes Willcox, Chief Executive, Australia Industry Group, and Chairperson, Migration Council of Australia will highlight the proactive solutions that this report recommends.

Additionally, we will be joined by Fatima Tlaa, MYAN Youth Ambassador Network Representative for SA, and Yusuf Mohamed, a young entrepreneur from VIC.

MYAN’s report COVID-19 and young migrants – impact and solutions provides expert economic analysis on employment data specific to young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. This report highlights the impact of COVID-19 on employment for young people and reveals how the recession of 2020 will likely have lasting effects on young people, particularly young migrants.

She has participated in Youth Parliament, facilitated in UN Youth (South Australia), SA’s National Youth Week Young Member in 2016 and is the State Ambassador for MYAN to name a few.
She is currently working in finance but hopes to be employed in the IT industry soon. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys traveling, photography and scrolling through Tiktok.

Yusuf Mohamed
Young entrepreneur from Victoria

Yusuf Mohamed, currently a young entrepreneur from Victoria, has found it difficult to find work for a number of reasons. Yusuf explains that a major factor is due to businesses wanting people with experience, but young people can’t gain experience without being hired. The current climate of COVID-19 has also increased job insecurity. Yusuf believes that there is a lack of support for young people in finding work, which is what led him to join CMY where he was able to gain employment.
After finishing year 12, Yusuf began studying a Diploma of Business at RMIT but deferred shortly after to explore other work opportunities and gain real-world experience. Yusuf recently launched his own business, called VIP Men’s Grooming selling astute grooming products for men and has started working for Spark Events group which was his first (but not his last) paid job.
