Cancer Screening

MYAN is collaborating with the Department and its Health YAG to promote bowel, breast, and cervical screening in CALD communities, focusing on young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds and their families.

In Australia, people from multicultural backgrounds with cancer often have poorer cancer journeys and outcomes than other Australians. There are a lot of reasons for this, but many relate to cancer being found late. We know this because cancer screening data shows that fewer people from multicultural communities take part in screening compared to other Australians. To help reduce the impact cancer has on Australian multicultural communities, the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care is working to get more people from multicultural communities taking part in screening.

MYAN is working with The Department and its Health YAG to deliver a campaign to support the uptake of bowel, breast, and cervical screening among CALD communities, particularly among young people from migrant or refugee backgrounds, their family and communities. We’ve co-designed resources and podcasts to raise awareness on the importance of these screenings.
